Austria's logistics location strategy on track: Federal Minister Hanke establishes advisory board for targeted implementation Launch for the implementation of the logistics location strategy with representatives from the logistics sector, social partnership, business and science

Today, Thursday, the first meeting of the logistics advisory board took place at the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure ( BMIMI). The logistics location strategy presented in June 2026 includes around 100 proposed measures, which were developed in a comprehensive participatory process together with the logistics sector. The logistics advisory board, composed of 36 renowned experts, will in future accompany and evaluate the implementation of these measures and ensure ongoing dialogue and exchange of experience with the sector.

Strengthen the location

The clear objective is to strengthen the competitiveness of Austria's economic and industrial location – and thus also contribute to the overarching goal of the industrial strategy: to bring Austria into the top ten most competitive economies in the world by 2035.

"Logistics keeps Austria moving every day – economically, socially and increasingly geopolitically. With the logistics advisory board, we regularly and consistently bring expertise from practice to the table, so that our strategy is now followed by concrete measures and results," said Federal Minister Peter Hanke.
The spokesperson of the logistics advisory board Sylvia Völker adds: "Austria has an efficient logistics system. In the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index (LPI), the country has regularly achieved a top position. This strength should be utilised to keep the location on course even under stormy conditions and geopolitical challenges."

Kick-off and next steps

The focus of the first meeting was on the tasks and working methods of the advisory board, the prioritisation of the multitude of measures as well as the medium-term roadmap for consistent implementation. The measures are based on ten areas, with special focus on securing skilled workers, digitalisation, value creation networks and sustainability. For the targeted steering of the implementation process, comprehensive monitoring will be set up, which makes progress and implementation results continuously and transparently visible.

The advisory board is established as a permanent institution and will meet regularly. Meanwhile, initial initiatives and implementation partnerships for joint implementation of the strategy are already underway. Further information is continuously available at bmimi.gv.at/lss (in German).
