On 9 July 2026, Roland Schuster was appointed on an interim basis to head Section II (Mobility) at the Federal Ministry. He has many years’ experience at the Ministry of Transport and Mobility, as well as expertise in the fields of transport policy and infrastructure financing.

The Mobility Section is responsible for multimodal strategy and planning, as well as the financing of rail transport infrastructure.

Roland Schuster succeeded Cornelia Breuß in this role; she moved to ÖBB-Infrastruktur AG.

Roland Schuster studied law at the University of Vienna from 1986 to 1992 and, whilst working, completed a postgraduate course in ‘Public Management’ at the University of Salzburg Business School from 2002 to 2004, graduating with a Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Roland Schuster has headed the Department of Infrastructure Financing and Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Mobility since July 2008. Prior to this, he had worked in the ‘EU Affairs’ department of the Ministry of Transport since 1993 (serving as deputy head of department from 2003).
