Minister Hanke on ams Osram Sale: "I expect location and employment guarantees"

For weeks, there has been speculation about a possible sale of key business areas of the company ams Osram, headquartered in Premstätten, Styria, to Infineon Germany; this was confirmed this evening. In a phone call, Innovation and Location Minister Peter Hanke was informed of the decision by ams Osram CEO Aldo Kamper.

“I have been assured that both ams Osram and Infineon will do everything they can to preserve the Premstätten location and retain the majority of jobs, despite the sale of the medical and industrial business. I assume this will not prove to be empty words,” said Hanke in an initial response.

Federal Minister Hanke had been advocating behind the scenes for an Austrian solution that would have benefited the workforce as well as the domestic location. Now it is essential to provide security to those affected, emphasized Hanke, who demanded both a location and employment guarantee from ams Osram.
