StVO Amendment Proposal: Review ended with 94 submissions Submitted statements are now being reviewed. The entry into force is still planned for 2026.

In mid-October, the federal government announced a StVO collective amendment proposal. On Friday, the review period ended. A total of 94 statements were received. The coalition will use this time to carefully review all suggestions. The aim remains to amend the road traffic regulations in Austria to promote traffic safety and quality of life.

“I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the legislative process with their statement. For me, this is a clear sign that there is a widespread need for an amendment of our road traffic regulations among organisations, municipalities and in civil society. We will now take the time in the federal government to thoroughly review the statements. In the end, there should be a collective amendment that puts both traffic safety and the quality of life of the people at the forefront. My goal remains an entry into force on May 1 and October 1, 2026,” emphasises Mobility Minister Peter Hanke.

In addition to extended behaviour and equipment requirements for E- scooters and E-bikes, automated access management for traffic calming from May 2026 as well as the shifting of E-mopeds from cycle paths to roads from October 2026 are planned.

Hanke summed up the regulations as follows: “With this reform, we are bringing the StVO into the 21st century and accommodating new mobility forms.”
