Expansion of the A9 in Styria is moved into the planning phase The focus is placed on traffic safety and quality of life
Federal Minister Peter Hanke and the province of Styria agree on next steps to expand the capacity of the A9 Pyhrn motorway.
Mobility Minister Peter Hanke and the Styrian provincial government have reached a common project understanding for the further development of the A9 Pyhrn motorway in the southern economic area of Graz. Minister Hanke is thus responding to the increasing traffic problems in the region and the associated challenges for traffic safety and quality of life of the population.
"Despite our extensive investments in rail infrastructure, we see that road traffic in the southern economic area of Graz continues to increase. Without targeted measures, increased congestion and diversion traffic into towns threaten. We cannot accept this," explains Mobility Minister Peter Hanke. “With the start of planning, we are now laying the foundation for a factual project development that meets both mobility needs and environmental requirements. It is especially important to me that the quality of life of the people is preserved. Being stuck in traffic certainly does not promote this.”
The ASFiNAG will now be commissioned by Minister Hanke with further project planning and development. The project is thus in an early planning stage. Afterwards, the project will be submitted by the project applicant ASFiNAG to the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility and Infrastructure (BMIMI) for a comprehensive review.
